September 11th Memorial

National President's Program

Alexander McNair Society met at the 9/11 Memorial at Fenton City Park. Members read books about the September 11th attacks before coming to the meeting. 

During the meeting, they learned about the National President's Program: Courage. Service. Honor. 

This program supports the Tunnels 2 Towers Foundation and educates today's youth about the the 9/11 attacks. Members and Seniors discussed the September 11th attacks. One member said they didn't realize that there were attacks in more places than just the World Trade Center. Members also learned about the planes that crashed into the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. Members asked a lot of questions about where the seniors were at, and what day-to-day life was like at the time. They were amazed to learn how much the event affected the entire world.

National President's Program, Veterans, & C.A.R./DAR/SAR/S.R. Relations Programs

Alexander McNair members participated in the State DAR Memorial Day ceremony at Coldwater Cemetery. While there members also took the opportunity to lay flowers on the veterans' graves.

Attendance: 3 members, 6 seniors

Afterwards, the group moved to one member family's home for a BBQ. After enjoying good food and good fellowship, Jojo led the younger members in learning First Aid skills. We began talking about the National Theme: Courage, Service, Honor. And everyone made First Aid kits.

Teddy said: "My favorite part was figuring out that it is possible to blow up gloves like balloons."

Lucy said: " My favorite part was getting ketchup on you and curing the patient."

May Meeting

National President's & Conservation Programs

Members and seniors gathered together for an outdoor meeting in May for the "2021 Life Outside" contest put on by the Great Rivers Greenway.

A member shared information about the National President's program, "Keeping Everyone on the Move" and the OSCAR MIKE Foundation. You can help support N.S.C.A.R. and OSCAR MIKE here.

Then they gathered up their things and got on the move! Members took a walk to the Greenway where they completed activities for the 2021 Life Outside challenge.

They completed different challenges like collecting trash for conservation, taking selfies, tossing balls, and making leaf rubbings.

July Meeting: Packet Planning Meeting

Packet Planning Meeting

Attendees: 5 members (4 peewees) and 7 seniors

Members came together to plan their calendar for the year. Before the meeting, families reviewed the Foundations of Freedom National Program. Members wrote lists of what they wanted to do this year with C.A.R. Members and seniors worked together to create a calendar of events for the year.

Members watched several videos about Women's Suffrage and Transportation Anniversaries. Then they had fun splashing and playing in the pool in the back yard!

Contest Connections:

2nd Vice President - Members watched videos about transportation anniversaries. They wanted to go to the St. Louis Science Center to the Apollo 11 anniversary party so we added that to the calendar.

Organizing Secretary - Watching videos about the Women's Suffrage movement and then discussing. The children wanted to have a march to the St. Louis Public Library to honor the Women's Suffrage movement and the march that they had 100 years ago so we added that to our calendar.

Registrar - Several members (aged 6) wrote lists of what they wanted to do for the year. They wanted to do things like having a tea party (in honor of George Washington's mother), visiting the St. Louis Public Library, and making George Washington's desk out of clay.

November: Veteran's Day Program

Members attended a fully packed day of learning about Veteran's day at Jefferson Barracks Park and Cemetery. There were 6 members, 1 prospective member, and 7 seniors in attendance.

First, members attended the "Over Here: World War I from Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis and Missouri" exhibit at the Old Ordnance Room at Jefferson Barracks Park. There, they learned about the Zimmerman Telegram and how it started World War I. The older members tried to explain it to us on video (see above and below).

Second, member attended a wreath laying ceremony sponsored by the St. Louis-Jefferson Chapter DAR. Members helped pass out goodie bags to veterans.

Third, members placed a wreath at the World War I memorial, to honor those who fought in the war they learned about earlier in the day.
